editor for the transcription of audio files

What does the editor have to offer?

Audio controllable via keyboard

Audio playback can easily be controlled by user-defined keys. No hand needs to be removed from the keyboard to play or pause playback, or to replay the last sequence listened to.

Insert timestamps

In order to be able to easily find the location of a text passage in the audio file, timestamps can be inserted in the text. This is possible via the keyboard as well.

Automated formatting

For sections, speakers, timestamps and the heading, you can specify how they are to be displayed. If one of these elements is inserted, it automatically receives the formatting set for its element class. If the formatting is changed for an element class, it is automatically adjusted for all elements of this element class.

Transcribing conversations

Transcription of interviews and other conversations is made easier. Speakers can be inserted simply by clicking on the speaker name in the list of speakers. If there are only 2 speakers, the editor can be set to automatically start the new paragraph with the next speaker after pressing Enter.

Word completion

Frequently used and complicated words can be completed in a simple way.

Dark mode

To protect the eyes when working in the dark, it is possible to switch to a dark design.

Limitations

Few formatting options

This editor aims to simplify and speed up typewriting, but offers few formatting options and no auto-correction.

Save only in HTML format

Currently, the written texts can only be saved in HTML format and possibly as PDF via the print function.

=> Recommendation: Texts created via this page should be copied into a word processing program after completion. There they should be reformatted if necessary and saved in the desired file format.

Laggy text input

If the length of the text is large, entering new text can get sluggish. This seems to be due to the implementation of the used HTML element in some browsers. To prevent this either Firefox or Safari should be used or the text should be copied into a word processor and deleted from the text field when the input starts to get jerky.

For whom is this editor interesting?

The editor is interesting for anyone who wants to convert an audio file into text. Examples of use include the transcription of interviews, conversations for market research, job interviews or lectures. In addition, it is often also more convenient to first record texts via a dictation app on the smartphone and type them out later.
